Hospital of Future in Martin (HOFM)
A multidisciplinary university hospital with a traumatological center. Designed in accordance with ERA (European Research Area) rules. The Silava stream integrated with the bio-corridor in response to the Green Hospitals 2020 initiative. Architecture inspired by the landscapes of the Slovak Tatras.
A modern hospital which is offering comprehensive medical care in the field of prophylaxis, ambulatory and stationary treatment. The HOFM infrastructure allows you to compete with other centers in Slovakia and the entire ERA (European Research Area) area. The initiator of the project is the University of Comenius, intending to create unique conditions for teaching students in the field of general medicine in both Slovak and English as part of international programs. The ambition of the University's authorities is the implementation of the building, which is part of the global initiative "Green Hospitals 2020" which goal is, among others fight against the global warming. Third prize in the international architectural competition.
Hospital with 415 hospital beds and 28 hybrid operating rooms. Some of the rooms are intended for transplantology and implementation of procedures involving robots. HOFM enables complete medical diagnosis to be carried out within 4 hours and termination of stationary treatment within 2 weeks of patient admission. HOFM was designed as a modular building. This facilitates the transformation of the internal layout of rooms and adaptation to changes in the field of medical technology or in the structure of medical procedures. In the base of the building is provided a rescue unit, a diagnostic center, an operating theater with an intensive care unit, a branch of one-day procedures, a laboratory and a rehabilitation ward. A surgical, internal diseases, gynecology and obstetrics, otolaryngology, oncology and dermatology departments are planned in the dominant. The 72˚ angle between the individual wings of the dominant, allows you to provide a view of the mountains surrounding the hospital that all the bed rooms are in the dominant.
The HOFM architecture is inspired by the natural landscape of the Slovak Tatra Mountains. The four-storey dominant is supposed to bring to mind the mountain peaks, covered with a smooth snow cap, created with delicate snowflakes. Vertical divisions of facade panels are snow gaps formed by the weight of their own snow. Perforation of the panels, gives the facades a lightness, reflecting the fluffiness of the snow. The hospital is planned to be made of materials with a durability of not less than 50 years. As part of the project, extensive use of sunlight for room lighting is planning to be provided. It was assumed that the demand for water and energy would be reduced thanks to the use of recycled water and rainwater. Photovoltaic panels and intelligent lighting fixtures will help to reduce the demand for electricity. The ground heat exchanger, supported by a cogeneration system, supplied with gas, will cover the demand related to building heating and cooling.
